Birmingham, Ala. – Parts of Central Alabama are sweltering under a dangerous heat wave today, with heat indices soaring as high as 106°F in areas like Tuscaloosa, Fayette, and Hamilton.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday for northwestern and western portions of Central Alabama. Daytime highs are expected to reach 95°F, but humidity is pushing the “feels like” temperature to triple digits, creating a moderate to major heat risk for residents.

Tuscaloosa, Jasper, and Hamilton are among the cities under alert, with warnings for outdoor workers and vulnerable populations. The NWS urges residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, wear light-colored clothing, and never leave children or pets inside vehicles.

Air conditioning alone may not be enough in poorly ventilated spaces. If you don’t have access to reliable cooling, consider visiting public buildings like libraries or community centers.

Though no power outages or road impacts have been reported, conditions could worsen if the heat lingers into the weekend.

Warnings remain in effect through 7 p.m., and additional advisories may follow if conditions intensify.
