Tulsa, OK – Commuters in southeast Oklahoma and western-central Arkansas may encounter patchy fog this morning, with some areas seeing visibility drop to around one mile, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa.

According to NWS forecasters, fog formation will remain possible from early morning through mid-morning, particularly across communities near McAlester, Hugo, Fort Smith, and surrounding rural areas. While widespread dense fog is not expected, localized pockets of thicker fog could still influence travel conditions.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles when traveling through fog-prone stretches. NWS notes that even brief reductions in visibility can lead to sudden slowdowns on highways and county roads, especially before sunrise.

The highest fog potential appears concentrated in far southeast Oklahoma, where terrain variations and lingering moisture are supporting early-morning cloud development near the surface. Fog is expected to gradually lift and dissipate by mid-morning as temperatures rise.

Outside the fog zone, the rest of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas will see a quiet start to the day, with dry conditions and no major weather hazards anticipated.

As visibility improves late this morning, forecasters say the region will transition into a partly sunny and mild afternoon. No additional fog issues are expected overnight.

Residents who commute through low-lying areas or near bodies of water are most likely to encounter patchy fog and should plan for minor delays.
