TULSA, Okla. – Scattered showers and thunderstorms sweeping across eastern Oklahoma this morning are expected to bring pockets of heavy rain, with the highest threat for localized flooding along and south of Interstate 44 through mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, rainfall amounts will generally range from a quarter-inch to half an inch, but isolated spots could see up to 2 inches. Urban areas, small streams, and low-lying spots are most vulnerable to flooding, especially where multiple storms pass over the same location.

Communities from Tulsa to McAlester should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads, particularly on major highways such as I-44 and U.S. Highway 69. Drivers are urged to slow down in heavy rain and avoid attempting to cross flooded streets.

The heaviest rain is expected to taper by late afternoon, though lingering showers may continue into the evening. Additional rainfall chances could return later this week as humidity stays high.
