Tulsa, Okla. – Extreme August heat will tighten its grip on eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas through this weekend, pushing heat index values to near or above 110°F in many cities. Afternoon relief will be scarce, with only a few isolated storms possible in southeastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, temperatures will climb into the upper 90s and low 100s from Thursday through Monday, with humidity pushing “feels like” readings into the danger zone. The agency urges residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity to early morning or late evening, stay hydrated, and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned spaces.

Cities including Tulsa, Fort Smith, Fayetteville, and McAlester are forecast to see peak heat on Saturday and Sunday. Storm chances will remain very low—generally under 20%—but where they occur, heavy downpours and brief strong wind gusts are possible.

The heat will ease slightly by midweek, but temperatures will remain above seasonal averages. Officials advise staying alert for additional advisories as conditions evolve.
