Oklahoma starts the morning under mild skies, with warm air lingering well past sunrise and a faint haze near river valleys. It feels more like early fall than late December, but change is already on the way.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, patchy fog may redevelop late tonight into early morning, especially near the Lower Arkansas River Valley, reducing visibility for early drivers. Temperatures climb quickly today and Saturday, peaking near 79 degrees, keeping roads dry and travel smooth across the Tulsa metro.

Saturday stays quiet but breezy at times. Southerly winds increase through the afternoon, gusting over 20 mph, especially on exposed highways like US-75 and I-44. For now, conditions remain favorable for weekend and post-holiday travel.

By Sunday, the pattern turns more active. Clouds increase, and spotty showers may develop during the afternoon. Winds strengthen noticeably as a cold front approaches, with gusts pushing 30 to 35 mph by evening. Lightweight vehicles and high-profile travel may become difficult, especially west of Tulsa.

Behind the front, colder air pours in quickly. Sunday night temperatures fall into the mid-20s, marking the coldest stretch so far this winter season. Any lingering moisture could freeze on bridges and overpasses, raising a black ice concern early Monday.

Looking ahead to New Yearโ€™s Week 2026, colder mornings settle in, though skies trend drier. Wind chills may dip into the teens early Monday, reinforcing winterโ€™s arrival after an unusually warm December weekend.

Plan extra time for Sunday travel, secure loose outdoor items, and prepare for a sharp temperature drop.
