Tulsa, OK – Widespread rain and thunderstorms are expected across eastern Oklahoma beginning Friday night and continuing through Saturday night, with a low risk of excessive rainfall developing south of Interstate 44.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a 5% to 15% chance of excessive rainfall is forecast Saturday into Saturday evening, particularly across southeast Oklahoma and into western Arkansas. While forecasters say dry conditions leading up to the system may help limit widespread flooding, localized high water issues remain possible — especially in flood-prone areas.

Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are common Saturday into Saturday night, in addition to a quarter to half inch expected Friday night. The highest rainfall amounts are projected southeast of Tulsa, including communities such as McAlester, Muskogee, Stigler, Poteau, and extending toward Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Drivers along I-44 and highways across southern and eastern Oklahoma should plan for wet roads, reduced visibility, and possible ponding during heavier downpours. Thunderstorms may also bring brief gusty winds.

The heaviest rain threat appears focused during the daytime Saturday through Saturday evening before tapering off overnight.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, particularly if living in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
