Tulsa, OK – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tulsa is warning residents to prepare for a two-part weather system bringing showers and isolated thunderstorms Sunday, followed by strong winds and a cold front by midweek.

According to an early-morning update from NWS Tulsa, showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue through Sunday afternoon before tapering off by evening. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain under half an inch across most of eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.

A brief period of dry weather is expected Monday before a strong cold front moves in late Monday night into Tuesday, bringing renewed chances for showers and thunderstorms. Behind the front, strong northwesterly winds will develop Tuesday and persist into Wednesday.

Forecasters say wind gusts could reach 35 to 45 miles per hour, creating hazardous driving conditions for high-profile vehicles and the potential for small tree limbs to fall. The strongest gusts are expected across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas during Tuesday afternoon and into the day Wednesday.

Temperatures are forecast to drop noticeably behind the front, bringing a cooler and breezy stretch midweek before gradual warming returns by next weekend.

Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and secure outdoor items ahead of the strong winds. Outdoor events today should also be mindful of lightning and brief heavy rainfall.
