TULSA, Okla. – Thunderstorms are expected to build across northeast Oklahoma late Friday afternoon, with the strongest activity likely between 4 and 7 p.m. Storms could bring quarter-size hail, damaging wind gusts, and dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, particularly near Tulsa, Muskogee, and Fayetteville.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a cold front moving into the region will trigger scattered storms through Friday evening. While the tornado risk remains very low, forecasters warn that hail and gusty winds may cause travel hazards and potential damage to vehicles and property.

Areas along Interstate 44, including Claremore and Vinita, may experience the most widespread activity during the evening commute. Motorists are urged to avoid flooded roadways, and outdoor events could face sudden lightning strikes and heavy downpours.

Officials advise residents to stay indoors during storms, secure loose outdoor items, and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Conditions may improve later Friday night, but isolated showers and storms could linger into early Saturday morning across eastern Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas.

More updates are expected as the cold front advances through the state Friday evening.
