Tulsa, OK – Powerful fall thunderstorms are expected to sweep through eastern Oklahoma early Saturday, with large hail and damaging winds topping the list of hazards. The National Weather Service in Tulsa warns that some storms could produce hail up to golf ball size and wind gusts nearing 70 mph from dawn through late afternoon. A limited tornado threat is also possible, mainly from Tulsa southward toward McAlester and Fort Smith.

According to the National Weather Service Tulsa office, storms are most likely between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. in the Tulsa metro, with activity continuing east into the afternoon. Areas west of I-44, including Bartlesville and Pawhuska, could see the first storms as early as 4 a.m., while southeast counties near Poteau and Hugo may stay active until 5 p.m. Forecasters note that Friday night’s early rounds may begin after midnight, with the main severe window Saturday morning into early afternoon.

The agency urges residents to monitor weather alerts overnight and keep multiple ways to receive warnings, especially since storms may arrive before sunrise. High winds could down trees or power lines, and large hail could damage vehicles and roofs. Drivers along I-44, US-75, and I-40 should prepare for reduced visibility and ponding on roads during heavy downpours.

Emergency managers recommend charging devices, securing loose outdoor items, and having a plan to shelter quickly if warnings are issued.
