Tulsa, OK – Early morning thunderstorms are moving across eastern Oklahoma Tuesday, bringing dangerous lightning and locally heavy rain before noon. The National Weather Service warns of additional storm development Tuesday afternoon and evening, raising the potential for flash flooding in low-lying areas and along flood-prone roadways.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, the highest lightning risk will be during the morning hours, with gusty winds possible in the strongest cells. Motorists along I-44 and US-75 should watch for brief ponding on roads, while outdoor activities may need to be delayed until storms pass.
Storm coverage will diminish Wednesday, giving way to a stretch of extreme heat. Highs are expected to climb into the upper 90s by Friday, with heat indices pushing past 105° and possibly reaching 110° in some locations. Outdoor workers should take frequent breaks and stay hydrated, and residents are urged to check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.
Heat and humidity will dominate through the weekend, with low thunderstorm chances returning early next week. Additional advisories are possible as heat peaks.
