Tulsa, Okla. – Drivers across northeast Oklahoma and into northwest Arkansas may face dangerous conditions late tonight as patchy fog develops, cutting visibility to less than a mile in spots through early Friday. Commuters along major highways in Tulsa, Bartlesville, and Fayetteville are urged to plan for slowdowns during the morning drive.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, visibility impacts are expected between midnight and 9 a.m. Friday, with the greatest risk in the Arkansas River Valley and across far northwest Arkansas. Forecasters noted that rapid changes in visibility are likely over short distances, creating sudden hazards for motorists.
Cities including Fort Smith, Branson, and McAlester could also see reduced visibility in localized areas. Transportation officials recommend slowing down, leaving extra space between vehicles, and using low-beam headlights to stay safe.
The fog threat is expected to ease by midmorning Friday as daytime heating improves conditions, but another round of patchy fog cannot be ruled out in the coming days. Motorists are advised to remain alert for updated advisories overnight.
