Tulsa, OK – The National Weather Service in Tulsa is alerting residents across eastern Oklahoma to prepare for possible severe thunderstorms beginning Friday night and continuing into Saturday evening.

According to the NWS Tulsa outlook, a 15% chance of severe weather exists Saturday, October 18, with potential for large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. The strongest storms are expected east of McAlester, Muskogee, and Grove, extending as far west as Highway 75.

Forecasters say the region could see marginal storm activity overnight Friday, followed by an increasing threat through Saturday afternoon and evening. The storm system may bring hail up to golf-ball size and wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, posing risks to outdoor events, travel, and power lines.

Meteorologists urge residents to stay weather-aware, noting that changes in timing and severity are still possible. “Have three ways to receive warnings,” the NWS advised, including NOAA weather radios, mobile alerts, and local media updates.

Officials recommend keeping a severe weather safety plan in place, particularly for those east of Tulsa and near the Arkansas border, where instability appears greatest.
