Tulsa, Oklahoma – Strong to severe thunderstorms could develop across eastern Oklahoma Sunday afternoon before moving into western Arkansas, bringing threats of large hail and damaging winds.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, thunderstorms are expected to form along a cold front and move east through the region during the early to mid-afternoon hours Sunday.

Forecasters say the primary threats will be damaging wind gusts near 70 mph and large hail, potentially reaching quarter size or larger in stronger storms.

The severe weather risk extends across much of eastern Oklahoma, including the Tulsa metro area, before storms continue moving into western Arkansas later in the day.

The tornado threat is considered limited, but officials say residents should still remain weather aware as storm conditions develop along the advancing front.

The National Weather Service recommends residents monitor updated forecasts, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and review severe weather safety plans ahead of Sunday’s storms.

Storm timing could affect Sunday afternoon travel and outdoor activities across eastern Oklahoma, particularly as storms intensify along the approaching cold front.

For students, service workers, and others traveling during the afternoon, storms could produce sudden heavy rain, gusty winds, and brief disruptions to outdoor plans.
