Tulsa, Oklahoma – Residents across eastern Oklahoma should prepare for several inches of rain and a growing flash flood threat starting Monday, as multiple rounds of thunderstorms track through the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 4) for excessive rainfall is in place Monday, August 25, with heavy downpours likely over northeast Oklahoma—including Tulsa, Bartlesville, Muskogee, and Fort Smith. Local totals may exceed 3 inches by early Thursday, especially in urban or low-lying areas prone to flooding.
By Tuesday, rainfall continues but with lower flood potential. Still, forecasters urge residents from Claremore to McAlester to remain alert. Drivers should avoid water-covered roads and secure outdoor property. If you live in a flood-prone area, plan alternate routes and stay weather-aware.
The heaviest rain is expected between Monday afternoon and Tuesday night, with rainfall tapering off midweek. Though amounts are uncertain, the NWS says flash flooding could become an issue quickly, especially during evening commutes.
More updates are expected through the weekend. Additional watches or warnings may be issued as confidence grows.
