TULSA, Okla. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will cover much of eastern Oklahoma through tonight, bringing the threat of localized flash flooding in low-lying areas. Some spots could see up to 4 inches of rain by early Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, widespread showers are moving across northeast and east central Oklahoma and into northwest Arkansas. Most locations will receive 1 to 2 inches of rainfall, but heavier pockets may produce double that total. The highest risks are focused on Tulsa, Muskogee, and Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Travel may be impacted on major roadways including I-40 and U.S. 69, where ponding and reduced visibility are likely during evening and overnight hours. Emergency officials urge drivers not to cross flooded roads, even if water appears shallow.

Localized street flooding is possible in Tulsa and Fayetteville, while McAlester and Bartlesville could see periods of heavy downpours that may slow Monday evening commutes. Residents are advised to charge devices and monitor weather alerts in case of power outages.

The storm system is expected to weaken by Tuesday morning, but more rain chances remain possible later this week.
