TULSA, Okla. – Afternoon heat indices across eastern Oklahoma will climb into the upper 90s through Sunday, but a sharp change in the weather pattern arrives Monday with cooler air and widespread rain chances.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, highs will stay in the low to mid-90s through the weekend, with heat indices between 95 and 100 degrees in Tulsa, Fort Smith, and Fayetteville. The hot stretch will hold through Sunday before a cold front pushes into the region, bringing much cooler temperatures and a surge of moisture.

By Monday, highs across Tulsa and much of eastern Oklahoma will only reach the upper 70s, nearly 20 degrees cooler than recent days. Rain chances jump to 55–65 percent Monday into Tuesday, with steady showers possible across Fayetteville, Rogers, and Muskogee. Areas including McAlester, Tahlequah, and Bartlesville could also see locally heavy rainfall during this period.

Travelers should prepare for wet commutes and reduced visibility early next week. The NWS advises limiting outdoor activity this weekend during peak heat and to keep an eye on updated forecasts as showers expand across the region Monday.

Cooler-than-normal conditions and elevated rain chances are expected to linger through much of next week.
