Tulsa, OK – Dense fog blanketed parts of eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas early Tuesday, significantly reducing visibility and prompting travel advisories across the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Tulsa, areas including Tulsa, Fayetteville, and Fort Smith saw visibility reduced to a quarter-mile or less before 5 a.m. CDT. The thick fog is expected to persist through mid-morning, gradually dissipating as temperatures rise.

Drivers across extreme eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas should use caution, particularly along major routes like I-40 and U.S. Highway 412. Authorities recommend reducing speed, using low-beam headlights, and allowing extra distance between vehicles.

This morning’s fog event is part of a seasonal pattern in the region, where cooler overnight temperatures meet elevated humidity levels, creating ideal conditions for dense fog formation. Similar fog occurrences earlier this month led to minor collisions and slowed commutes.

While no widespread delays have been reported yet, the National Weather Service advises checking local traffic updates and weather conditions before traveling. Conditions are expected to improve after 9 a.m. CDT, restoring visibility across affected counties including Sequoyah, Washington, and Benton.

Travelers and morning commuters should remain alert and plan extra time for morning routes.
