Tucson, Arizona – A potent shift in Arizona’s weather pattern will bring snow to the mountains and rain to the valleys from late Thursday through Sunday, creating hazardous travel across the southeast region.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are likely in the White Mountains, with 5 to 10 inches possible in the Sky Islands near and north of Tucson. Snow levels will remain above 7,000 feet, keeping lower elevations mainly rain-soaked instead.
Rainfall totals could reach 0.5 to 1 inch across Cochise, Graham, and Greenlee counties, with slightly lower amounts in Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties. Slick roads, slow commutes, and minor flooding are all possible through the weekend, especially in areas with poor drainage or dry washes that may quickly fill.
High-elevation roads could become icy or snow-covered, particularly from Friday into Sunday, making travel to mountain areas dangerous. Drivers are urged to delay non-essential trips and check road conditions before heading out.
The storm is expected to clear by late Sunday, but more advisories may follow if conditions worsen.
