TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson and much of southern Arizona are under an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. Friday as temperatures climb past 105° and in some areas approach 110°. The National Weather Service warns the prolonged stretch of triple-digit heat poses a significant risk for heat illness.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the warning covers Pima and southeastern Pinal counties, including Tucson, Marana, Nogales, Sierra Vista, Oracle, and Safford. The hottest conditions are expected during the afternoon and evening hours, with nighttime lows staying in the 80s, offering little relief.

Forecasters note a slight chance of thunderstorms each afternoon, but cloud cover and rain will not be widespread enough to bring cooling. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities, reschedule strenuous work to early morning or evening, and stay hydrated. Those who must be outside should wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and anyone experiencing symptoms such as confusion, rapid pulse, or fainting should call 911 immediately. The warning remains in effect until Friday evening, though temperatures will still hover near 105° into the weekend.
