Tucson, Arizona – Active weather is expected across southern Arizona through Saturday night, bringing periods of valley rain and accumulating mountain snow, according to the National Weather Service in Tucson.

In a Friday update, the NWS said on-and-off rain and high-elevation snow will continue through the weekend. Rainfall amounts are expected to average 0.50 to 1.25 inches, with locally higher totals in Cochise County and mountain areas. Lower rainfall amounts are expected west of Tucson.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 5 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday, with 6 to 12 inches of snow possible above 7,000 feet. Forecasters say the bulk of the snow is expected to fall Saturday into Saturday night, potentially impacting mountain passes and higher-elevation roadways.

Snow levels are expected to remain high enough to limit impacts in the lower deserts, but heavier bursts of rain could lead to ponding on roadways and water collecting in normally dry washes. In the mountains, slick roads and reduced visibility are likely during periods of heavier snowfall.

The National Weather Service urges travelers to use caution, especially those planning trips into higher terrain this weekend. Conditions may change quickly, and impacts could persist into early Sunday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, advisories, and road conditions as the system moves through the region.
