Tucson, Arizona – Drivers across southern Arizona could face sudden crosswinds and visibility drops by the Friday evening commute as strong southeast winds surge into the Tucson metro and surrounding valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 5 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday for the Tucson area, with earlier impacts beginning at noon in eastern valleys. Gusts are expected to reach up to 45 mph, especially in east-to-southeast aligned valleys where terrain will accelerate wind speeds.

Across southeastern Arizona, including Cochise and Graham counties, blowing dust may reduce visibility along stretches of Interstate 10, particularly near San Simon and Bowie. Drivers on I-10 and State Route 80 should prepare for sudden lane drift, especially for high-profile vehicles. Local emergency managers warn that unsecured outdoor items could become airborne, and isolated power disruptions are possible in wind-prone corridors.

In Tucson, the strongest winds are expected between 5 p.m. Friday and the early morning hours Saturday, potentially impacting evening travel and overnight infrastructure. Areas west of mountain ranges may see slightly reduced wind speeds due to terrain blocking, but gusts will still be strong enough to affect travel and outdoor activity.

Residents are urged to secure loose objects, delay non-essential travel during peak wind periods, and remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions. The advisory remains in effect until mid-afternoon Saturday, and additional updates may follow if conditions intensify.
