Tucson, AZ – A blast of cold air moving into southeast Arizona will bring widespread freezing temperatures early Friday, prompting the National Weather Service in Tucson to issue a Freeze Warning from 2 AM to 9 AM MST. Temperatures are forecast to fall between 24° and 32°F, especially in the valleys east and south of Tucson, including Willcox, Benson, Douglas, Safford, Portal, and the Sulphur Springs Valley.
Forecast temperature grids show the coldest readings occurring around sunrise Friday, with many rural spots dipping into the mid-20s. Subfreezing conditions pose risks to vulnerable residents and outdoor items, and the NWS is urging people to follow the “Four P’s”: People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants.
Residents should limit outdoor exposure, check on elderly neighbors, bring pets indoors, insulate exposed pipes, and cover sensitive plants before temperatures drop.
Although Friday afternoon will warm into the 50s and 60s, another cold night is possible behind the departing system.
