Tucson, Arizona – Above-normal temperatures and gusty winds are expected across the Tucson area today, with brief travel and outdoor impacts possible.

According to a Facebook update from the National Weather Service office in Tucson, high temperatures Thursday are forecast to reach 2 to 5 degrees above normal. Afternoon highs are expected to climb into the mid to upper 70s across much of southeastern Arizona.

In addition to the warmer temperatures, gusty easterly winds will continue through the afternoon hours before gradually diminishing this evening. Forecast data shows a high probability of wind gusts exceeding 30 miles per hour in parts of the region, including Tucson and nearby communities.

The strongest winds are expected along major transportation corridors such as Interstate 10, Interstate 19, U.S. Route 77, and Aviation Parkway. Motorists, especially those driving high-profile vehicles, may experience brief handling difficulties during stronger gusts, particularly in open or elevated areas.

Increasing cloud cover is expected later today as moisture moves into the region. The National Weather Service noted the potential for virga — precipitation that evaporates before reaching the ground — along with a few light showers this evening. The chance of measurable rainfall remains below 10 percent, and no flooding or thunderstorm hazards are anticipated.

Despite the clouds, temperatures will remain mild through the evening hours. Winds are expected to gradually weaken overnight, leading to calmer conditions by Friday morning.

The combination of warm temperatures and gusty winds may impact outdoor plans, construction activities, and early evening commutes. Students, cyclists, and pedestrians should be prepared for sudden gusts, especially near roadways.

No watches, warnings, or advisories were in effect at the time of the update. Forecast conditions may change as weather systems evolve.
