Tucson, AZ – Drivers in Tucson will face major detours starting next week as the Arizona Department of Transportation begins a long-term closure of Country Club Road at Interstate 10.

According to ADOT, the closure will begin at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, and is expected to last through summer 2026 as part of a $600 million project to reconstruct I-10 from Kino Parkway to Country Club Road. The project includes rebuilding bridges, relocating utilities, and constructing a new interchange at Country Club Road.

During the closure, Country Club Road will only be open to local traffic between Irvington Road and Michigan Street, with no vehicles allowed to pass under I-10. In addition, the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Irvington Road will close permanently at 8 p.m. Saturday. Drivers can instead use the westbound I-10 on-ramp at Palo Verde Road.

ADOT said a new westbound on-ramp at Alvernon Way is scheduled to open at 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, to provide additional access.

The improvements will widen I-10 to three lanes in each direction between Kino Parkway and Alvernon Way, reconstruct the interchange at Kino Parkway, and build a new interchange at Country Club Road. Other work includes removing the Palo Verde Road interchange, adding a westbound on-ramp at Alvernon Way, and constructing a pedestrian undercrossing for the Kino Sports Complex.

Despite the work, ADOT said two lanes of traffic in each direction on I-10 will remain open during peak travel times to maintain access to local businesses. Construction along the corridor is expected to continue through 2028.
