TUCSON, Ariz. – Heavy tropical moisture is expected to drench southern Arizona this weekend, prompting a Flood Watch through Monday evening for much of Pima, Cochise, and Pinal counties. Areas from the Tucson Metro to Nogales, Sierra Vista, and the Catalina and Rincon Mountains could see significant rainfall and flash flooding in low-lying zones.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms will develop Saturday afternoon and persist through Monday. Rainfall totals for the three-day period may reach 1 to 3 inches, with localized higher amounts possible in mountainous areas. Excessive runoff could lead to flooding of washes, creeks, and roads, especially near the Upper Gila River, Santa Cruz Valley, and Altar Valley.

Residents are urged to stay alert for potential Flood Warnings and avoid driving across flooded roadways. Those living in flood-prone areas should prepare to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.

The watch remains in effect through Monday evening, with additional advisories possible if rainfall intensifies across southern Arizona.
