TUCSON, Ariz. – Triple-digit heat is holding firm in Southern Arizona as Tucson prepares for storm chances returning by Monday evening. Drivers along I-10 could see slick spots and reduced visibility if thunderstorms develop during the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, highs will climb near 99 on Sunday and 96 Monday, with Tuesday pushing to 100 degrees. Thunderstorm chances rise to 30 percent Monday afternoon into night, with rainfall possible across Pima County. Some storms could bring gusty winds, lightning, and quick downpours.
Northwest winds will shift Sunday afternoon, holding near 7 mph. Though light, gusts may kick up blowing dust in open desert areas. Outdoor workers and residents should stay hydrated, limit midday activity, and remain alert to changing skies. Cooling centers remain open in Tucson, offering relief for vulnerable residents.
Storm chances stay low Sunday, at 10 percent, but increase to 20–30 percent by Monday. While not widespread, even isolated storms could cause flooding in low-lying areas or temporary road hazards on I-10 and city streets.
Relief is limited, as overnight lows hold in the mid-to-upper 70s, keeping little break from the heat.
By Tuesday, conditions return to mostly dry but hot, with storm chances tapering off. However, forecasters say another round of showers could arrive by Thursday. Residents should check for updated advisories early in the week.
