PARSONS, WV – The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Eastern and Western Tucker County, in effect until 1 p.m. Tuesday, as a powerful winter system continues to dump heavy snow across the higher terrain.

Forecasters expect total snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches, with localized higher totals possible in areas such as Canaan Valley, Davis, and Thomas. Winds could gust up to 50 mph, producing blowing snow, reduced visibility, and scattered tree damage.

The NWS warns that travel will be hazardous through early Tuesday, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Slippery, snow-covered roads and gusty winds may make driving treacherous, especially on mountain passes and rural routes.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages due to falling branches and snow-laden trees. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies, including food, water, and flashlights.

This early-season storm marks one of the first significant snow events for West Virginia’s higher elevations, signaling the arrival of winter-like conditions across the Appalachian region.
