Eureka, CA – A tsunami warning issued for coastal areas of California and Oregon following a 7.0 earthquake near Cape Mendocino has been canceled. The National Tsunami Warning Center made the announcement at 11:54 a.m. PST on Thursday, stating there is no longer a tsunami threat to the region.

The warning, which covered areas from Davenport, California, to the Douglas/Lane County line in Oregon, had prompted evacuation orders in parts of West Berkeley and other coastal zones. Authorities urged caution, advising residents not to re-occupy hazard zones until cleared by local officials.

The earthquake struck at 12:44 p.m., about 45 miles southwest of Eureka, with shaking felt by over 11,000 people across Northern California and southern Oregon. While the quake caused no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, experts warn of potential aftershocks in the coming days.

The National Tsunami Warning Center confirmed no destructive tsunami was observed, and no tsunami danger exists for the U.S. West Coast, British Columbia, or Alaska. Residents are encouraged to remain prepared and monitor updates from local emergency officials.
