Miami, FL – The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a tropical wave in the central Atlantic that could gradually develop as it moves west toward the Caribbean Sea next week.
As of Friday, October 17, forecasters give the system a 30% chance of development over the next seven days. The disturbance, currently producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms, is expected to continue moving westward at 10 to 15 mph, entering the eastern Caribbean by early next week.
According to the NHC, environmental conditions may become somewhat more favorable for tropical organization once the system reaches the western Caribbean, though no immediate tropical formation is expected within the next 48 hours.
Residents and interests in the Lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico, and Hispaniola are encouraged to monitor forecasts closely as the system approaches. While it is too early to determine any direct impacts, forecasters emphasize that October remains an active month for Caribbean tropical development.
