Corpus Christi, Texas – Showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop across South Texas through Monday as Tropical Storm Barry churns in the Bay of Campeche, though no major impacts are expected at this time.
According to the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, Barry formed early Saturday and is moving northwest at 6 mph. The system is forecast to make landfall in eastern Mexico late Saturday or overnight, bringing gusty winds and heavy rainfall to northeastern Mexican states.
While tropical storm-force winds are expected near the storm’s center, the outer bands may only clip far South Texas with increased cloud cover and scattered downpours. Coastal communities including Brownsville, Harlingen, and McAllen may see intermittent showers today and tomorrow, but flooding or wind damage is not anticipated.
No advisories or warnings have been issued for Texas, and local emergency officials are not calling for any immediate precautions. However, residents are encouraged to monitor updates in case Barry’s track shifts.
Barry is not expected to intensify significantly, and its slow movement will likely keep most hazards confined to eastern Mexico.
