Buffalo, NY – As New York experiences a period of cool and quiet weather, significant changes are on the horizon due to the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, this system is expected to bring tropical moisture northward, resulting in heavy rainfall across parts of the state later this week. The most severe weather is forecasted for Friday and Friday night, with the Finger Lakes and North Country regions particularly at risk.

The Weather Prediction Center has issued a moderate risk for excessive rainfall on Friday, with rainfall amounts ranging from 2 to 4 inches and locally higher amounts up to 6 inches possible. This heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and river flooding, particularly in areas where storms may produce torrential rain repeatedly over the same locations.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are expected to move up the Mid-Atlantic coast and impact New York from Thursday night into Friday. While Saturday is expected to be drier, localized heavy rainfall is still possible, particularly around Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Residents are advised to monitor weather updates closely as the situation develops, particularly if they live in flood-prone areas. Flooding precautions and safety measures should be taken seriously as the tropical moisture makes its way into the region.
