Orlando, Fla. – Urban neighborhoods across Florida could see flash flooding early next week as tropical moisture brings rounds of heavy rain from Monday through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Melbourne, a low-pressure area offshore the Southeast U.S. coast has a 20% chance of developing into a tropical depression late next week. Regardless of development, widespread rain is expected to impact the Florida Peninsula as the system drifts west into the Gulf.

The Weather Prediction Center warns that 3 to 6 inches of rainfall could fall across the state, with locally higher amounts possible, especially in low-lying and urban areas. Scattered flash flooding is most likely Monday and Tuesday, with risks lingering through Thursday. Central and South Florida, including Orlando, Tampa, and Miami, are under a “Slight Risk” for excessive rainfall.

Residents should monitor alerts and avoid driving through flooded roads. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” remains critical advice as water may rise quickly in vulnerable areas.

The National Hurricane Center will continue to track the disturbance, and further advisories may be issued as conditions evolve.
