Weaverville, Calif. – Residents in Trinity County face heightened fire danger this afternoon as a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday, with thunderstorms expected to bring dangerous dry lightning.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, storms developing over the county could produce erratic outflow winds and little to no rainfall, increasing the risk for new wildfire starts and rapid fire spread. The most affected areas include Weaverville, Hayfork, and the surrounding Trinity Alps region.
Officials urge residents to report any signs of smoke or fire immediately to local fire authorities or the U.S. Forest Service. With gusty winds possible, power outages and falling tree limbs may also occur. Safety officials recommend postponing outdoor activities and seeking shelter indoors during thunder.
The Red Flag Warning is expected to expire by 9 p.m., but fire danger will remain elevated as dry fuels persist across Northern California. Additional alerts may be issued if conditions worsen.
