Pueblo, Colorado – Warmer and drier weather is settling across southern Colorado as temperatures climb back above seasonal levels heading into the start of 2026, offering a quieter pattern for the New Year holiday week.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Monday’s high temperatures reached the mid-50s across much of the eastern plains, including around 56 degrees in Pueblo, with Colorado Springs near 49 degrees and Trinidad approaching the upper 40s. Sunshine and dry conditions dominated much of the region, continuing a warming trend that is expected to persist through the end of the year.

Forecasters said temperatures will remain at or above seasonal averages throughout the New Year’s holiday week, with dry weather continuing across lower elevations. Highs are forecast to climb into the 50s and low 60s for many plains communities, while overnight lows remain comparatively mild for late December.

While the plains stay dry, the National Weather Service noted that snow chances will return to the mountains along the Continental Divide on New Year’s Day. That snow is expected to continue into the first weekend of the new year, primarily impacting higher elevations rather than urban or agricultural areas on the plains.

Cities such as Salida, Leadville, and Woodland Park may see increasing cloud cover and wintry conditions as mountain snowfall develops, while Pueblo, La Junta, and Lamar remain dry with above-normal temperatures.

No widespread travel impacts are expected on the plains during this period, though officials encouraged travelers heading into the mountains to monitor forecasts closely as snow chances increase after midweek.

The pattern marks a noticeable contrast from recent colder conditions, providing a mild close to 2025 and a relatively calm start to 2026 for southern Colorado before winter weather becomes more active again in the high country.
