RALEIGH, N.C. – Rain drizzles across much of the Triangle this morning, washing over wet leaves and slicking up roadways as fall’s next cool-down arrives. Steady showers will spread east through midday, followed by gusty northeast winds that mark a shift toward colder, drier air by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, rain will continue through Tuesday with occasional heavier bursts near the I-40 and I-85 corridors. Winds could gust past 20 mph at times, especially during the evening commute, creating brief ponding on low-lying roads. Temperatures will hover in the 50s before dipping toward the upper 40s late Tuesday night.

By Wednesday, a second wave of showers will slide through central North Carolina as a stronger front clears the region. Cooler, drier air follows quickly — highs Wednesday near 59, then falling into the 40s by Thursday morning. Residents should secure outdoor Halloween decorations and check gutters or drains before the midweek rain ends.

Trick-or-treaters can expect a chill by Friday evening, but skies look mostly clear. Daytime highs should rebound into the lower 60s before sunset temperatures dip into the 40s. Costumes with layers or gloves will make the rounds more comfortable.

Early signals from long-range models hint at a colder November pattern taking shape — a reminder that fall’s crisp days are fast giving way to winter’s edge.
