Greensboro, N.C. – Dangerous wind gusts and strong thunderstorms could disrupt travel and outdoor plans across central North Carolina this afternoon, with the Triad region at particular risk between 2 and 8 p.m. Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a few strong to severe storms are expected to develop in the northwest portion of the state, especially around Greensboro, High Point, and Winston-Salem. Some storms could produce wind gusts exceeding 60 mph, potentially leading to downed trees, isolated power outages, and dangerous road conditions during the evening commute.

The highest threat will occur mid- to late-afternoon as scattered storms sweep through the area. Residents are urged to have multiple ways to receive alerts and to secure loose outdoor items ahead of time. Those in higher-risk zones should avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours.

Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80s today—warmer than Wednesday—contributing to storm fuel across the Piedmont. Additional advisories may be issued if storm coverage increases or intensifies.

Warnings remain possible through Thursday night. A calmer pattern is expected to return by early Friday.
