Columbus, OH – Drivers across Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeast Indiana face slick highways and hidden patches of black ice during the morning commute, with light snow and refreezing expected to create hazardous travel until 11 a.m. Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 11 a.m. for a large portion of the region, including Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati in Ohio; Covington and Newport in Kentucky; and Richmond and Lawrenceburg in Indiana. Up to 1 inch of additional snowfall is possible, while snow melt overnight has already refrozen on untreated roads.
In central Ohio, stretches of I-70, I-71 and I-270 around Downtown Columbus and Newark may remain icy, especially on bridges and overpasses. In the Miami Valley, including Dayton, Springfield and Troy, blowing snow could briefly reduce visibility along I-75.
Across the Cincinnati metro, including Hamilton, Mason and Milford, drivers may encounter slick secondary roads and ramps. Northern Kentucky communities such as Florence, Independence and Maysville also report icy patches.
Transportation officials urge motorists to slow down, increase following distance and check OHGO, GoKY or 511 Indiana for live road updates. Conditions should gradually improve late this morning as temperatures rise, but isolated slick spots may linger into midday.
