Wilmington, Ohio – Strong thunderstorms could batter parts of Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky Tuesday afternoon, bringing the risk of large hail and damaging winds that could impact travel and outdoor activities.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop after 11 a.m. Tuesday, with a higher chance for severe weather during the afternoon and evening hours. Storms could strengthen quickly, especially across east-central Indiana, central Ohio, and northern Kentucky, with gusts reaching up to 28 mph.

Cities including Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus may see storms capable of producing damaging straight-line winds and hail over one inch in diameter. Localized power outages and difficult driving conditions are possible on major roads such as I-70, I-71, and I-75. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items, charge devices, and avoid unnecessary travel during the peak storm window.

While Monday will remain calm and sunny, conditions will shift rapidly by Tuesday morning. This will mark one of the first significant severe weather threats of the spring for the region.

Thunderstorm chances continue into Tuesday night, with additional showers lingering into Wednesday. Updates from the NWS Wilmington office are expected as the storm timing and severity become clearer.
