New York, NY – A surge of early summer heat will blanket the Tri-State region Thursday, with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s across parts of New York City and northeastern New Jersey.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, Thursday’s highs will range from the mid-80s in Poughkeepsie and White Plains to 91°F in Newark, New Brunswick, and Freehold. NYC could see some neighborhoods peak just above 90°F. While skies will remain mostly sunny, a few isolated showers or storms could pop up late Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.
Winds from the west-southwest will range between 7 to 12 mph, with gusts possibly hitting 20 mph in the afternoon, potentially impacting outdoor plans and commute safety. The heat will feel more intense due to the sunshine and minimal cloud cover, prompting health officials to remind residents to stay hydrated and limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.
This warming trend follows a slightly cooler-than-average start to June and mirrors a similar spike in temperatures seen around this time in 2017, when the city hit a record 93°F.
Another update will follow if storm potential increases.
