NEW YORK – A Freeze Warning is in effect for parts of the lower Hudson Valley, northern New Jersey, and inland Connecticut, where temperatures are expected to drop to around 30°F from Midnight to 9AM EDT Friday. The National Weather Service said subfreezing air will settle across the region overnight, marking the first hard freeze of the fall season for many interior communities.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, the warning includes Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Northern Westchester counties in New York; Western Passaic County in New Jersey; and Northern Fairfield, Northern New Haven, Northern Middlesex, and Northern New London counties in Connecticut. Clear skies and calm winds will allow for rapid overnight cooling, producing widespread frost by daybreak Friday.
Residents should take immediate steps to protect outdoor plants and plumbing. Gardeners are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation, and homeowners should drain hoses and insulate exposed pipes. Agricultural officials across the Hudson Valley and western Connecticut say the freeze is expected to end the growing season in these inland areas.
Drivers should expect frosted windshields and slick bridge surfaces early Friday, especially in shaded or rural zones. Temperatures will rebound into the lower 50s under sunshine by afternoon, with another cold night possible Friday before a warming trend sets in for the weekend.
