Paducah, Kentucky – Strong storms could impact western Kentucky late tonight, bringing heavy rain and lightning before temperatures drop sharply enough to threaten sensitive plants by early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, numerous showers and scattered thunderstorms will develop late tonight and continue through Friday, with a few stronger storms possible mainly north of Interstate 64. Rain chances peak overnight into early Friday, with cities like Paducah, Owensboro, and Evansville seeing up to a 70 to 75 percent chance of rainfall.

Conditions turn noticeably cooler behind a passing cold front Friday, with highs ranging from the low 50s northwest to upper 60s southeast. By late Friday night into early Saturday morning, temperatures are expected to fall between 29 and 35 degrees across the region, cold enough for frost and potential damage to early-season vegetation.

Communities including Hopkinsville, Murray, and Madisonville should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, from wet roads overnight to chilly mornings this weekend.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items ahead of storms and protect plants before temperatures fall. A warming trend begins Sunday, with highs returning to the 70s and even 80s by Monday, but additional updates may follow as conditions evolve.
