White Plains, New York – Drivers across the Tri-State region should prepare for slippery roads and slower travel Tuesday as a round of snow spreads across parts of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut during the morning and midday hours.
According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from early Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon for northern Fairfield County in Connecticut, several northern New Jersey counties, and the Lower Hudson Valley. Snow is expected to begin before sunrise, with conditions deteriorating during the height of the morning commute.
Accumulations of up to two inches are expected in Rockland County, northern Westchester County, eastern Passaic County, western Bergen County, and northern Fairfield County. Farther north and west, including western Passaic County in New Jersey and Orange and Putnam counties in New York, snowfall totals could reach between two and three inches.
While snowfall amounts will be modest, untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could quickly become slick, especially during the early commute. Travel delays are likely along major routes including I-287, the Taconic State Parkway, Route 17, and local roadways throughout the region.
Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor local Department of Transportation updates. Snow is expected to taper off by late afternoon Tuesday, but lingering slick spots could remain into the evening as temperatures hover near freezing.
