New York, NY – Air you can wear: much of the Tri-State area will feel like 100 degrees today as a dangerous heat wave grips New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, and northern New Jersey.
According to the National Weather Service, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, covering Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Westchester, Long Island, Hudson and Bergen counties, and most of southern Connecticut. Heat index values between 95–100°F are expected, with high humidity pushing conditions into dangerous territory.
In New York City, cooling centers are open and residents are urged to call 311 for locations. Officials recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors, especially seniors and those without air conditioning. Prolonged heat can be especially hazardous for people with chronic health conditions or those living in upper-floor apartments.
Outdoor workers should take frequent shaded breaks. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration advises avoiding midday labor whenever possible. Heat stroke is a medical emergency—call 911 immediately if someone becomes confused or loses consciousness.
The advisory could be extended if temperatures remain elevated into Wednesday. Stay indoors when possible, hydrate, and monitor local alerts.
