New York, NY – Another surge of Arctic air is moving into the Tri-State area tonight, bringing some of the coldest conditions of the season so far. The National Weather Service (NWS) in New York City reports that temperatures will struggle to climb above freezing Monday, with bitterly cold air and gusty winds expected across the region.
Highs on Monday will range from the upper 20s to low 30s across New York City, Long Island, and southern Connecticut. Farther inland, readings will stay in the 20s, with wind chills in the teens.
Behind tonight’s cold front, temperatures are forecast to drop sharply Monday night, with lows falling into the single digits and low teens. The coldest spots will be in the Hudson Valley and northwest New Jersey, where lows near 0°F are possible by early Tuesday morning.
“More cold air reinforcements are on the way,” the NWS warned. “Temperatures will struggle to get above freezing tomorrow.”
Residents should bundle up and limit time outdoors, as frostbite risks increase in subfreezing wind chills. The bitter cold pattern will linger through midweek before slight moderation later in the week.
