EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Drivers across portions of Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois should prepare for hazardous travel early Sunday as patchy, dense fog envelops the region, dramatically reducing visibility on major roadways.

According to a special weather statement from the National Weather Service, a humid air mass combined with light winds has created ideal conditions for fog, especially in low-lying areas and locations that received recent rainfall. Visibility could suddenly drop to a quarter-mile in some spots, creating perilous conditions for motorists. The advisory covers a wide swath of the Ohio Valley, including Paducah, Louisville, and Lexington in Kentucky, as well as Carbondale in Illinois and Evansville in southern Indiana.

Officials urge drivers to exercise extreme caution. Motorists should reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra following distance to allow for sudden stops. Cities affected range from Mount Vernon, Illinois, to Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Tell City, Indiana.

The fog is expected to gradually dissipate and mix out of the area by 8 a.m. CDT. Travelers are advised to stay tuned to local media for any updates to the advisory.
