Cincinnati, Ohio – Heavy rain and repeated thunderstorms could trigger flash flooding across the Ohio River Valley starting Sunday afternoon, prompting a widespread Flood Watch through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, the alert covers a large swath of southern Ohio, northern Kentucky, and eastern Indiana, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday and lasting until 11 a.m. Monday. Multiple rounds of storms may dump excessive rainfall, increasing runoff into rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas.

In Ohio, cities like Cincinnati, Dayton, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth are in the flood watch zone. Hamilton and Clermont counties may see standing water on roads during peak evening travel. Kentucky communities including Covington, Maysville, and Carrollton also face elevated flood risks. In Indiana, Dearborn and Ripley counties are expected to be hit hardest, especially in flood-prone neighborhoods.

Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, charge mobile devices, and check local alerts. If flooding begins, move to higher ground immediately. This event follows a week of intermittent storms that have already saturated much of the soil.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday morning, with additional alerts possible if rainfall rates intensify overnight.
