Paducah, KY – A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 7 a.m. CDT (8 a.m. EDT) Tuesday morning across portions of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Paducah.
Forecasters report that visibility has dropped to less than one-quarter mile in many locations, creating dangerous travel conditions during the morning commute.
The advisory includes counties such as Jefferson, Franklin, Williamson, Jackson, Saline, White, Wabash, Wayne, Gallatin, Perry, Edwards, Hamilton, and Union in Illinois; Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry, and Wayne in Missouri; and Gibson, Pike, Posey, Vanderburgh, and Warrick in Indiana.
Cities impacted include Mount Vernon, Carbondale, Harrisburg, McLeansboro, Evansville, Cape Girardeau, Mount Carmel, Boonville, and Piedmont.
The NWS advises motorists to slow down, use headlights, and leave extra distance between vehicles until the fog lifts later this morning. Travel may be especially hazardous on interstates and rural highways where visibility can change rapidly.
