Trenton, New Jersey – Light snow is expected to develop after midnight Monday night across much of central and northern New Jersey, with minor winter travel impacts possible into Tuesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service Mount Holly, areas north of Interstate 78, including Sussex County and the higher elevations of northwest New Jersey, have the greatest likelihood of accumulating snow. These locations show a 59 to 100 percent chance of at least 1 inch of snow, with 1 to 3 inches forecast and localized higher totals in the Poconos.

In Trenton, the probability of reaching 1 inch of snow is around 31 percent, while the chance of 2 inches or more is lower, near 24 percent. Farther south toward the Philadelphia metro and coastal New Jersey, snowfall chances decrease sharply, with light accumulations under 1 inch or no accumulation expected.

Forecast guidance also shows a small but notable ice risk. Parts of northwest New Jersey, the Poconos, and the Lehigh Valley carry a 30 to 38 percent chance of at least 0.01 inches of ice, as snow may briefly change to freezing rain late Tuesday morning before ending.

Precipitation is expected to end by early Tuesday afternoon, limiting overall impacts. However, slick roads and untreated surfaces are possible during the Tuesday morning commute, especially in higher elevations.

The timing may affect commuters, students, and early holiday travelers, particularly north and west of Trenton.

Drivers are urged to allow extra time Tuesday morning and monitor updates as precipitation type and amounts may vary by location.
