Boise, Idaho – After a sweltering stretch of 90s and near triple-digit highs, southwest Idaho is in for a noticeable change starting late Friday as a cooler, wetter pattern sets in just in time for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, temperatures will begin dipping Friday evening, with widespread showers and thunderstorms likely across the region Saturday. Areas like Banner Summit, Sun Valley, and Brundage Mountain could see rain chances climb above 50% by midday Saturday, while cities including Boise, Meridian, and Mountain Home will hover around a 35–40% chance of storms.

The change won’t just bring moisture — expect daytime highs to drop 15 to 20 degrees across much of the region by Saturday, falling from the mid-90s into the upper 70s and even 60s in higher elevations. Outdoor plans across the Treasure Valley and central Idaho mountains should be reconsidered, especially Saturday afternoon when storm chances peak. Flash flooding or gusty winds may accompany isolated storms.

Residents are urged to monitor local alerts, secure outdoor items, and avoid high mountain travel if lightning risk increases.

Rain and cooler air will linger through Tuesday, with more scattered showers possible early next week as the pattern remains active.
