Orlando, FL – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to impact much of central Florida today, with the heaviest coverage south of Orlando and along the Treasure Coast, according to the National Weather Service in Melbourne.

Forecasters say rainfall totals may exceed 2 inches in localized areas, bringing a risk of minor flooding, especially in low-lying and urban locations. The storm threat will continue into this evening, with widespread wet conditions possible across Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, and Port St. Lucie.

According to the NWS, the Treasure Coast is under a Level 2 of 4 excessive rainfall risk, meaning flooding impacts remain possible, though not widespread. In Vero Beach and Fort Pierce, rain chances are forecast at 80 percent or higher throughout the day.

Beachgoers are urged to exercise caution, as officials also warn of a high risk of rip currents at all east central Florida beaches, including Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, and Melbourne.

Temperatures across the region are expected to remain in the upper 80s, but frequent showers and storms may limit outdoor activities. Motorists are advised to watch for ponding of water on roadways and avoid flooded areas.

The wet pattern is expected to ease later in the week, but unsettled conditions could linger along Florida’s east coast.
